Adagio for Strings

Violin Solo in C

This is my first piece since moving to Louisiana a few months ago. Getting in the spirit of Cajun culture I added a hint of fiddle work in the cadenza which gives is a little different flavor while keeping with what I write. Maybe my next piece will have a little Cajun spice!

Talkin' Tuba

This is the first of a three piece work for tuba solo. There is a little challenge involved but it's meant to be fun. I think the idea spurs from the new culture I am in. It's considered common and normal to jump into other peoples conversations. There are a lot of people who get offended if you don't. It's considered rude to not interupt. In eastern US where I have spent most of my life it is exactly the opposite, who could have known!

Casual Words

This piece really compliments it's friend earlier created so to speak. To me it's most revealing of my situation living in a strange and different land. Most things leave me speechless. Not because they are a problem, it's just that I am so different. What can I say? I don't even have casual words.

Sounds of Hope

This piece was written in Memory of my cousin Christina Bellwood who passed away earlier this afternoon.
I'm not sure if anyone noticed before, I did not. Christina's initials are the same as our grandfather who passed away a few years back. That meant using her initials I would start out using C, B. With out reproducing something I had written before. To God's glory as soon as I sat down to write God gave me a beautiful melody using C and B in many different ways.

This melody flows so well that it has no natural feel of ending. Hope in Jesus Christ in never ending. May we always hope in Him. May our hope only pause for a moment in the presence of God's glory, when His glory out shines us. This idea is representitive of my B section which is brief.

The world will miss you Christina.

Your cousin,

Owen Gonzalez

Sounds of Hope Pt. 2

This piece is a second part to it's predicessor. This is not because of anything musical. Instead, it is because it's written for the identical twin who passed away today. It's form is similar and I used her name in the melodic theme. It is a very sad time for my family. Christina and Alicia had a rough life due to their disease. Their pain is ended.

Love,

Owen Gonzalez

A Prayer for Peace

Written in Memory of Lisa Lindsey. At the time of writing my inspiration came from her loving to play the flute, notes derived from her initials, and a poster I ordered for my choir room.

Her love for the flute is expressed in orchestration. The flute carries the main theme in the A section. The flute rest for the B section. The A section is representative of Lisa's soul which still lives. The B section of her body which now rests until the dead in Christ shall rise.

Her initals are L.L. (full initals are LLL, which I did not know at the time of writing) There is no L in the musical alphabet. So using doubling on the second time through L represents E. There for the heart of the theme is E E. Flute players like flat keys so I chose E flat as my key and Eb to Eb in octaves as my melodic theme. This to me grabs the essence of Aunt Lisa. The dramatic jump of an octave is Aunt Lisa all the way. She was hilarious and wild in a fun way. She might have wanted me to include the tune to "Somewhere over the Rainbow" with her most famious words in mind. "Some where over the rainbow pigs can fly" I chose not too though, sorry Aunt Lisa.

My third thought I had in mind was the saying on a poster I ordered that rang home with me as a composer.

" Bach gave us God's word, Mozart gave us God's laughter, Beethoven gave us God's fire, God gave us music so we could pray without words."

I read that poster just before I began to right, and a few people came to my mind. Granny, Papa, Larry, Jacob, Mrs. Sherry. I began to think deeply about these people and in the only way possible I expressed my true thoughts in "A Prayer for Peace."

May this piece be a prayer to God for peace with God, with out words to all who hear it. Grace and Peace!
